Kengo Kuma pays homage to Yixing’s pottery culture


该项目选址于中国享有“陶瓷之都”美誉的宜兴市,这里曾是宜兴陶瓷文化璀璨夺目的核心地带,遍布着历史悠久的陶瓷工厂与匠心独运的工作室。该项目紧密契合该地区旨在复兴与重塑的宏伟蓝图,旨在打造一个集陶瓷艺术传承与创新于一体的文化中心。


The project is located in Yixing City, which is known as the "Ceramic Capital" in China. It was once the dazzling core area of Yixing ceramic culture, full of historic ceramic factories and ingenious studios. The project is closely aligned with the region’s grand plan to revitalize and reshape the area, aiming to create a cultural center integrating ceramic art heritage and innovation.

蜀山和龙窟为隈研吾提供灵感
Shushan Mountain and Dragon Cave provide inspiration for Kengo Kuma


项目选址的周边环境为隈研吾提供了灵感源泉。北宋时期著名文学家苏东坡曾深情厚谊的蜀山,以及那历经六百年风雨沧桑、持续运作的前墅龙窑,不仅见证了宜兴陶瓷技艺的世代传承,更成为了隈研吾设计理念中不可或缺的灵魂元素,引领着陶瓷艺术向未来迈进。


The surrounding environment of the project site provided Kengo Kuma with a source of inspiration. Shushan, a place where the famous writer Su Dongpo had a deep friendship during the Northern Song Dynasty, and the Qianshu Long Kiln, which has gone through six hundred years of vicissitudes and has continued to operate, not only witnessed the inheritance of Yixing ceramic skills from generation to generation, but also became indispensable in Kengo Kuma’s design concept The soul element leads ceramic art towards the future.

倒置贝壳结构下的动态内饰
Dynamic interior under inverted shell structure


这座建筑宛如一座微缩的陶山,与邻近的陶厂及运河紧密相依。屋顶设计灵感源自经过精雕细琢的虚拟球体,呈现为倒置的贝壳形态,优雅地由四层精致的木格梁结构稳稳托起。这一轻盈而坚固的木制构造,不仅为室内空间赋予了灵动多变的气息,还巧妙地引导了视觉与动线的深入探索,让建筑的每一个角落都充满生机。


The building is like a miniature pottery mountain, closely connected with the adjacent pottery factory and canal. The roof design is inspired by a finely crafted virtual sphere, taking the form of an inverted shell, elegantly held up by a four-story delicate wooden lattice structure. This light and strong wooden structure not only gives the interior space a flexible and changeable atmosphere, but also cleverly guides the in-depth exploration of visual and dynamic lines, making every corner of the building full of life.

建筑的立面覆盖着凹凸不平、色彩斑斓的渐变釉面陶瓷板,这些陶瓷板手感温润而略带粗糙,如同历经岁月洗礼的中国茶具,深刻映照出这座拥有千年陶瓷传承之城的悠久历史与文化底蕴。每一处细节,都是对这座城市独特记忆与现代创新精神的致敬。


The facade of the building is covered with uneven and colorful gradient glazed ceramic plates. These ceramic plates feel warm and slightly rough, like Chinese tea sets that have been baptized by the years, deeply reflecting the long history of this city with a millennium of ceramic heritage. and cultural heritage. Every detail is a tribute to the city’s unique memory and modern innovative spirit.
